About our Parish
A Short History of St. Jude Syro Malabar Parish in S. Jersey
St Jude Syro Malabar Catholic Parish is a community of Catholic Christians living in South Jersey, whose roots are in Kerala, the peninsular state in southern India. The community has members from all major rites found in Kerala. Majority of our members are those who migrated to the United States of America seeking better opportunities. The main purpose of this community is to preserve and foster the traditions of our faith as well as encourage fellowship among Christians from the Kerala, living in South Jersey.
Around 35 families came together to form this community in December of 1999 at St. Peter Celestine Catholic Church in Cherry Hill, New Jersey with the help and support of Rev. Msgr. James R. Tracey who was the then pastor of the parish. However when St. Jude Catholic Church in Blackwood, opened the door for this community, they moved to that church and continued there until 2014 having their celebrations and ceremonies. Rev. Father Joseph Varghese Panthackal VC was the Spiritual Director until June 01, 2011.
From 2011 onwards this Mission is under the Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago. In May 2011 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath (Bishop of St. Thomas Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago) appointed Father John Melepuram (Then the Vicar of St. Thomas Syro Malabar Parish in Philadelphia), also as the Mission Director of this community. As of now, the community consists of about 50 families living within the Camden diocese and variety of Mission Celebrations, Ceremonies and Activities as well!
After being elevated as a Mission the growth of this community in faith, friendship and faith activities was amazing. Now this parish is having Parish Council, selected for two year term, Regular Sunday Masses, CCD Program for Children, Youth Activities, Weekly Family Prayer gatherings, Choir, Altar Servers, All Special celebrations, like Parish Thirunal, Parish Picnic, Christmas and Easter Celebrations, Social and Cultural activities.

The new Church was blessed and dedicated on June 18, 2016 by His Ex. Mar Jacob Angadiath (Bishop, Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago), concelebrated by His Ex. Most Reverend Dennis Sullivan (Bishop, Diocese of Camden) and His Ex. Mar Joy Alappat (Auxiliary, Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago). Bishop Angadiath pronounced this Mission as the 39 th Parish of Syro Malabar diocese of Chicago. During the ceremony Bishop Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr.
